Make wagon connection

Post  Texian Oxenology on Sun Dec 13, 2009 11:31 pm

I am in the early stages to participate next summer but I do not own a full size wagon. I built an ox cart around 3"x54" wheels so I can take it apart and put it in the trailer. It is no where period correct but is easy to transport with the boys. A friend has a wagon that I can use but I will probably have to do a lot of work on the wheels to make sure it can keep rolling that many days. Not sure I want to go to the trouble for a may be might make it.

My boys are now close to 1300 pound 5 year old Longhorns. We have gone to a lot of Texas Revolution (1836) events since they were 8 months old so they are well seasoned.

Ox carts

Post  Gery Barker on Mon Dec 28, 2009 7:36 am

I'm sorry I missed this until now. This is my season for writing and I spend so much time on the computer working that I don't do fun stuff. Carts were ghastly, crude and diverse in the nineteenth century South. I may be able to find you some pictures. Can you send one of your cart. In the terrain we're going to be on a cart will make your life much easier.

I suppose we will be in a company together because of speed of movement and we'll be bringing up the rear. I think we are getting a third ox team from up here. I don't expect any problems. Do you have someone coming with you?

Is there any way I can help you?

Your Servant, Sir,
Gery
